HISTORY of the starling in North America

Invasions like the European starling’s are one of many complex systems where I argue that our interpretive frameworks can impact survival and/or wellbeing of both human and non-human actors. At present I am working with archival material to understand how public narratives of the North American starling invasion have changed over time. This project focuses on the politics of the ornithological community in turn-of-the-20th century New York, USA, and in particular reconstructs the concurrent formation of the American Acclimatization Society and the American Museum of Natural History.
